Goatfell
Views of Goatfell

Details:

Begin this walk at the end of the road beyond the campsite in Glen Rosa.

You follow a wide track to begin with but then have a steep climb over boggy ground beside Gardh Alt. The climb continues to the summit of Bein Nuis, where you will be rewarded with fantastic views of Goatfell. The walk to Beinn Tarsuinn is straightforward, but a bit of scrambling is required after you leave its summit. Continue southeast taking in the summit of Beinn a'Chliabhain, after which the climbing is over and you have a few peat bogs to negotiate and then the steep decent back to Glen Rosa.

Loch Trool
Loch Trool

Details:

This walk is started at Caldons campsite at Loch Trool.

A path follows caldons burn on its right bank and gradually climbs until it reaches a wide forestry track. Cross the track and continue on the path, basically following the burn all the way until the forest ends. At this point turn northeast and climb to the summit of Cambrick Hill. A straightforward walk then takes you on to Lamachan Hill, Bannanbrack and Curleywee. From here you can descend northeast over grassy moorland to join up with the Southern Upland Way, south of Loch Dee. Follow this all the way back to Caldons.
